So I still can’t really believe it, but the Mastheads (a writers’ residency and public humanities project in Berkshire County) chose my teeny poem to be on a billboard.

It’s on Elm Street in Pittsfield, at an intersection I’ve passed through possibly thousands of times, and not far from Herman’s house.
When I saw their call for couplets about the Berkshires, I knew immediately what my subject would be – when am I not thinking about my dear friend, wondering if his teeth are staying white?

Herm had Mt. Greylock as his white whale, I have my amphibolite boulder dropped into western Mass by a glacier.

Thank you, Mastheads and MCLA!
